In the current day, the pursuit of a sustainable and net-zero future remains at the forefront of all businesses’ minds. Earlier this month, CIBSE Adrian Catchpole argued for the importance of maintaining quality and design integrity in our green engineering efforts.

Speaking at the Swegon Mission Zero event held this September, Catchpole emphasised that whilst the importance of reaching a net-zero future is clear, this should not be achieved at the expense of quality services. He acknowledged that the drive towards net zero carries with it significant budget burdens, and urged professionals to resist the temptation to compromise project design by opting for cheaper, lower-quality products.

Catchpole also drew attention to the pivotal role played by facility managers in realizing a building's energy-efficient potential. To ensure that a building operates in alignment with its design intent, proper handover procedures and comprehensive training for building operators and managers are essential.

To aid facility managers and building operators in their vital roles, CIBSE is launching an updated version of Guide M on the 28th of September. This comprehensive guide will serve as an invaluable resource, offering expert insights and guidance to navigate the intricate landscape of building management.
